Frequency division and frequency divider

Frequency division refers to the division of audio signals into high, middle and low frequency bands.

In the process of increasing the power of the electric loudspeaker, due to its structural characteristics, its frequency coverage becomes narrower. In order to achieve the full-frequency high-power loudspeaker, it is necessary to make the loudspeaker in different frequencies and combine them together. To give full play to the efficiency of each frequency band loudspeaker, it involves the problem of frequency division. There are two common ways of frequency division in sound amplification: electronic frequency division and power frequency division. The former is suitable for the occasions with high quality requirements, such as karaoke hall, concert hall and Disco hall, while the latter is suitable for the general karaoke hall, ballroom dance hall and multi-function hall.


1. Electronic frequency division

Electronic frequency division also known as active network frequency division, its frequency division system needs to add power supply.

Before the acoustic signal enters the amplifier, the frequency is divided. Its advantage is: sound efficiency is high, the power signal that each power amplifier sends out all gives sound to the corresponding frequency band loudspeaker. At the same time, behind each amplifier, in addition to the speaker, there is no added any nonlinear element, so, small nonlinear distortion, pleasant sound. However, the number of amplifiers used is large, the main sound reinforcement system is divided into left and right channels, three amplifiers are needed, if the auxiliary sound reinforcement system is also configured, three more amplifiers are needed. In this way, the cost is very high. 2. Power frequency division

Power frequency division, also known as the rootless network frequency division, does not require power supply.

The amplified power signal is firstly amplified by sound signal. The amplified power signal is sent to the corresponding loudspeaker through high-pass, band-pass and low-pass respectively. This frequency division method is simple, easy to connect, less power amplifier consumption, low cost, but because the frequency division is after the power amplifier, the frequency division network will always consume some power, making the speaker sound efficiency low. In addition, the capacitor and inductance used in the frequency division network belong to nonlinear components, which have nonlinear distortion and sound quality is not as good as electronic frequency division, which is the disadvantage of power frequency division.

There are two kinds of common power frequency division 3 frequency: element type and double element type.

The power frequency division dual element model is better than the unit model in frequency division. Some power frequency division adopts the combination of single and double components, and some adopts the mode of dichotomous frequency, that is, the woofer gives consideration to the sound of middle and low pitches, and the tweeter gives consideration to the sound of middle and high pitches. For example, JBL826 is a binary frequency system combining single and two components for easy operation. The treble part uses double elements, the bass part uses unit parts, the treble part loudspeaker and middle treble sound, the bass part loudspeaker and middle bass sound.
